Markeith Cooper returned the opening kickoff 56 yards to the Alabama 44-yard line to set up Auburns first scoring drive. Six plays later, freshman fullback Heath Evans scored from one-yard out to put the Tigers up 7-0.
After Alabamas opening drive stalled, the Tide punted the ball to the Tigers and Auburns offense went back to work. Freshman quarterback Gabe Gross hooked up with wide-out Clifton Robinson for 48 yards to move the Tigers into field goal range and from there, Rob Bironas connected on a 49-yard field goal to increase Auburns lead to 10-0.
Behind the strong rushing of Demontray Carter, who had his first 100 yard rushing game of the season, Gabe Gross connected with senior wide receiver Karsten Bailey from nine yards out to give Auburn a 17-0 lead over Alabama.
Alabamas offense would rebound in the second quarter, scoring two quick touchdowns and driving to score what looked to be a third before linebacker Haven Fields intercepted Alabama quarterback Andrew Zow in the end-zone to preserve a three point lead for the Tigers at halftime.

Freshman quarterback Gabe Gross moved the Tigers 80 yards in 11 plays which was capped off by a two-yard touchdown run by Demontray Carter to bring the Tigers within four points at 14-10.
